Dear Mr. Connolly,

Thanks so much for your suggestion that you and several Chamber representatives meet with me for a breakfast or lunch meeting.   My calendar is pretty solidly booked at the present time, but when my schedule eases up a bit, I would very much like to come speak at one of your "Breakfast for Business" meetings again.   I know you hold these monthly meetings with elected and city officials as guest speakers.  I remember speaking at one of these a while back, and I truly enjoyed it.  I'd be happy to speak on the issue of what my office has been doing to help promote new business and jobs for Richmond, as you are suggesting.  I agree it would be positive and constructive.  I would welcome such an opportunity to clear up false perceptions.

In the meantime, I invite you to attend our Feb. 23 City Council meeting for a few items of particular interest to the business community:  1) a proclamation I am co-sponsoring with Councilmember Bates recognizing several businesses in Richmond  and 2) a proclamation highlighting SunPower Systems and their contribution of clean-tech jobs to our local economy.  This City Council meeting will be a special opportunity to give much-deserved recognition to our local businesses and industries.  I encourage you and your members to share your perspectives during the public comment period for the proclamations or during Open Forum.  Thanks for considering it.

Sincerely,

Gayle McLaughlin
Mayor, City of Richmond
