ACTION ALERT: Say NO to the SIT/LIE Legislation

Submitted by News Desk on Thu, 03/11/2010 - 2:36pm
As many of you know, Mayor Newsom introduced legislation that make it illegal to sit or lie on any San Francisco sidewalk.  1st offense is a ticket, second offense is up to 30 days in jail.

After 30 days, it will go Public Safety Committee.

The proponents have stated they will put Sit/Lie on the ballot NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS AT the Board of Supervisors.

WE know this will be used against homeless people, queer people, people of color, unpermitted protestors, youth, immigrants and a whole lot of other folks.

WE know there are all kind of laws on the books already addressing issues of assault, harassment, and even blocking the sidewalk .

We know this has been tried and failed.

We know that this will increase hatred and thus hate crimes against homeless people.

We know the underlying agenda is to use this as a wedge issue for the November ballot.

WE ALSO KNOW WE CAN BEAT THIS THING BACK!
